The monument is entirely built from stone, while its main structure is in a circular form with a square base topped by a cone or a pyramid.

The art and architecture of Mauretania was also influenced by ancient Egyptian architecture , due to Juba II's marriage to the Ptolemaic princess Cleopatra Selene II .

Cleopatra Selene II ( Greek: Κλεοπάτρα Σελήνη; summer 40 BC – c. 5 BC; [3] the numeration is modern) was a Ptolemaic princess, Queen of Numidia (briefly in 25 BC) and Mauretania (25 BC – 5 BC) and Queen of Cyrenaica (34 BC – 30 BC [4] ). She was an important royal woman in the early Augustan age .

  6. On the other side is a central bust of Ptolemy and the inscription stating in Latin ‘King Ptolemy son of Juba’. Juba II died in 23 and was placed alongside Cleopatra Selene II in the Royal Mausoleum of Mauretania. Ptolemy then became the sole ruler of Mauretania.
