Suburbio es un término propio de la geografía urbana, procedente del latín suburbium, para designar a las zonas residenciales de la periferia urbana o extrarradio; mientras que propiamente en lengua española el concepto designa a los barrios bajos, pobres, marginados o degradados de esas zonas periféricas alejadas del centro de la ciudad. 1 2 .
