While Robert Englund again plays the character, "Freddy Krueger" is credited as "Himself" in the end credits. While earthquake scenes were already written into the film from the beginning, production of the film happened to take place concurrently with the 1994 Northridge earthquake in Los Angeles.

After the success of A Nightmare on Elm Street in 1984, New Line managed to crank out no less than five sequels in the subsequent decade.
