Tras el revolucionario periodo de Mayo del 68, la Universidad de Estrasburgo decidió, en 1971, dividirse en tres universidades distintas: Strasbourg I (Université Louis Pasteur) para las disciplinas científicas. Strasbourg II (Université Marc Bloch en 1998) agrupando las formaciones de letras y ciencias humanas.

  3. Throughout its existence, Unistra alumni, faculty, or researchers have included 18 Nobel laureates, one Fields Medalist and a wide range of notable individuals in their respective fields. Among them are Goethe, statesman Robert Schuman, historian Marc Bloch and several chemists such as Louis Pasteur.

  6. On 1 January 2009, Louis Pasteur University became part of the refounded University of Strasbourg and lost its status as an independent university. The university was a member of the LERU (League of European Research Universities). It was named after the famous 19th-century French scientist Louis Pasteur.
