Monster Hunter Stories 3: Petals of Pandemonium is a fangame by Saplinghoshii. It is the unofficial sequel to Monster Hunter Stories and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, taking place at the same time period as the events of the second game. This game has you play as an older Lute - the same legendary Rider who wiped out the Black Blight - a...

Long ago, the world was stricken in darkness as a mysterious phenomena called the Black Blight arose, taking over the minds of every creature and driving them into a frenzy. Fear plagued the hearts of many, and even the mightiest Hunters found themselves overpowered by the Blight. However, against all odds, a Rider from Hakum Village named Lute eradicated it with the help of his one-eyed Rathalos, Ratha, and a loud-mouthed Felyne named Navirou.

Five years have passed since then, and thanks to their efforts, the tension that once separated Riders and Hunters has been set aside, even to the point of welcoming Riders into the ranks of the Royal Guild. All would seem well in the world.

Unfortunately, it wouldn't last any longer.

Following reports of a new species of flora in the distant lands of the Draconis Isles came a mysterious plague; crimson fog covered acres of land, and the Monsters that once called it home had begun to flee elsewhere. Those who remained...were driven into a mindless psychosis.

Soon, the Successor of Redan and his one-eyed Rathalos will find themselves venturing far from home and into the Draconis Isles to investigate the connection between these flowers and the plague that now consumes the land.

Will the legendary Rider be able to eradicate the outbreak, or will the pestilence bring forth a horrific fate?

    Overview

Monster Hunter Stories 3: Petals of Pandemonium features the same turn-based gameplay the Stories games are best known for, with a rock-paper-scissors system where you pick between three attack types: Power, Speed, and Technical. Power beats Tech, Tech beats Speed, and Speed beats Power. Riders may also command their Monsties to use powerful moves at the cost of using up Kinship, or choose to mount them to activate special Kinship Attacks. A wide variety of Monsties await players, including brand-new Monsties and fan-favorites from Monster Hunter Explore and Monster Hunter Frontier, which they may collect by sneaking into Monster Dens of various rarities. The Rite of Channeling makes its return too, as well as the widely beloved Element Swapping feature. The Rider Arena and Co-Op Multiplayer also make their return, allowing Riders to explore the world together or pit themselves against each other one-on-one, or two-on-two. Riders may also embark on vast journeys through the Draconis Isles to meet new friends, encounter new Monsters, and explore unknown frontiers. The main story of Monster Hunter Stories 3 stretches across Low Rank and High Rank, making for one, seamless story full of adventure and challenges.

    New & Returning Features

•Followers - Returning from Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak are Followers. Riders may recruit up to four (4) Followers simultaneously, thus allowing for five party members max. In addition, a new combat option has been added which allows Riders to “Command” their Followers. This includes changing which attack type or Silkbind Art they’ll use. Along with this new feature are Follower Tales, which are storylines that expand on the Followers and further flesh them out as characters. They are unlocked after completing the main campaign. Upon completing a Follower Tale, you unlock the feature to play as said Follower, allowing you to explore the vast, open world as them. •Follower Classes - Followers consist of three (3) different classes: Strikers, Smashers, and Piercers. Each class specializes in certain Damage Types - Strikers with Cutting DMG, Smashers with Blunt DMG, and Piercers with Piercing DMG. The weapons that a Follower can equip vary depending on the class (or classes) they occupy. •Party Bonuses - Along with the addition of Followers are Party Bonuses, which are passive buffs that affect your team depending on whether you and your Followers’ classes, weapon elements, or ailments match. These buffs include: •Striker Boost: If three (3) Striker-class Hunters are in the party, Raw DMG is increased by 5%. •Smasher Boost: If three (3) Smasher-class Hunters are in the party, the chances of landing KOs is increased by 5%. •Piercer Boost: If three (3) Piercer-class Hunters are in the party, all damage dealt to Weak Points is increased by 5%. •Elemental Boost: If three (3) Hunters in the party have weapons of a matching Element, Elemental DMG is increased by 5%. •Status Boost: If three (3) Hunters in the party have weapons of a matching Ailment, the chances of inflicting Abnormal Statuses is increased by 5%. •Underwater Combat & Exploration - Also making its way into MHS3 is Underwater Combat from Monster Hunter Tri and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. Take your journeys seaward and explore the depths of the ocean! •With this addition, Riders may now press and hold the B button when riding a Monster with the Swim Rider Action to get them to plunge into the water. When battling Monsters underwater, switching to Monsties that are incapable of swimming will take the battle to the shoreline •New Game PLUS - Relive Lute and Ratha’s journey and start anew, all while keeping everything you currently have! (Stats, Monsties, Armor/Layered Armor, Weapons, Followers, etc.) •New Elements - Monster Hunter Stories 3: Petals of Pandemonium introduces three (3) new Elements: Light, Earth, and Void. In-game, these are classified as Mystic Elements; elements of such high rarity that only few Monsters across the world have been recorded wielding such powers. •Elemental Blights - Making their way from the mainline series are Elemental Blights, thus allowing for even greater emphasis on debuffing and combat strategy. •Daylight & Weather Cycle - Coming to Monster Hunter Stories 3: Petals of Pandemonium is a new and improved Daylight & Weather Cycle, allowing Riders to explore the lands of the Draconis Isle and beyond during the brightest of days, or the darkest of nights. Certain wild Monsters may also appear or experience shifts in their behavior during a specific time of day or type of weather too, so keep those eyes peeled, Rider! •In addition with this feature is Weather Boosting, wherein certain Monsties will gain a 10% Elemental DMG boost depending on the weather. •Sunny: Fire, •Windy: Ice, •Cloudy: Dragon, •Stormy: Water, Thunder •Monstie Growth - A new addition to MHS3 is Monstie Growth, where Monsties undergo physical changes upon reaching Level 50 and/or meeting certain conditions. The most prominent example of this feature in play is Basarios; upon reaching Level 50, it'll turn into a Gravios. However, if a Rider's Basarios reaches Level 50 in a volcanic habitat, then it'll grow into a Black Gravios instead. As for some Monsters who attain different forms through physical trauma (e.g. Soulseer Mizutsune and Bloodbath Diablos), they will grow into their new forms if their HP is at 40% or lower by the time they reach Lvl.50. •Monstie Armor - Riders may now forge armor for their Monsties to increase their capabilities in combat! Each set of Monstie Armor has their own Armor Skills, allowing Riders to swap between different armors to see which one works best for their Monsties. With this addition comes a newer version of Channeling Gems, which are now made to be used on your Monstie's armor. Low Rank-level armor have one (1) Gem Slot, High Rank-level armor have two (2) Gem Slots, and Master Rank-level armor have three (3) Gem Slots. Equipping your Monstie with matching armor will allow them to gain Synergy, lowering the Kinship Cost of their attacks. •Weapons - Monster Hunter Stories 3 adds in all the weapons from the mainline games, as well as a brand new weapon: the Rapier - whose movesets and capabilities are slightly altered to fit the more traditional RPG-like atmosphere of the Monster Hunter Stories franchise. •Upon reaching Master Rank, players will unlock four (4) new weapons: the Tonfas, Magnet Spike, Accel Axe, and the Hunting Whip. •Silkbind Arts - Silkbind Arts (formerly called Silkbind Attacks) from Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak make their return, replacing the Rider’s Weapon Skills from the past two titles. Riders may customize and select between wide varieties of Silkbind Arts, allowing for a maximum of three (3) Silkbind Arts to be equipped. With this comes the addition of Dual Silkbind Arts, the Hunter/Rider counterpart to Dual Kinships, all with their own unique animations that vary between weapon combinations. •Silkbind Arts will act the same as the Rider's Weapon Skills from the past two Monster Hunter Stories titles, requiring a certain amount of Kinship to be used up in order to be performed. •Hunter Arts - A new addition to the Stories franchise are Hunter Arts, which allows Riders to perform unique abilities exclusive across different weapon classes, similarly to Silkbind Arts. Unlike the former, however, Hunter Arts cannot be customized and don't require Kinship in order to be used. Instead, each Hunter Art has a set cooldown time after use. •Kinship Assaults - Once all party members’ Kinship Gauges are full, players may choose to either perform a Kinship Attack…or initiate a Kinship Assault instead! Once activated, all allies’ Basic Attacks and Hunter Arts will fill up the Unit Gauge, which pops up on the top-right corner of the screen. All Silkbind Arts still consume a certain amount of Kinship; if the Unit Gauge is reduced back to 0%, the Kinship Assault will end. On the other hand, if the Unit Gauge is filled up, a powerful Unital Kinship Attack will activate! •Note/s: Landing Double Attacks will fill up the gauge faster. •Initiating a Kinship Assault will buff the entire team’s ATK and DEF stats by x1.05 until the Kinship Assault is finished. •A Kinship Assault may also be stopped if the HP of any team member is fully depleted. •In 10-player Sieges, Kinship Assaults may only be initiated by only five (5) players at a time. •Siege Fights - Making its way from the mainline games are Siege Fights, where up to ten (10) players are pit against one giant, powerful Monster with the goal of either repelling or defeating them. Siege Fights aren’t limited to just Online Play, but are available for those who prefer to play offline through the help of Followers. These fights follow the same turn-based format of Monster Hunter Stories, however, Riders may reposition themselves in the heat of the battle to use equipment like cannons and Dragonators to change the tide of the fight. •Sharpness - The Sharpness Meter also makes its return from the mainline Monster Hunter titles. It works just the same as how it did in the mainline games, where a small chunk of sharpness is depleted after every turn, with lower sharpness levels dealing near-minimal damage and causing weapons to bounce off certain parts. This was implemented to further make the Whetstones in Stories more viable in combat.
