In March 2024, The Boy and the Heron was announced to be released on Max in the US, and on Netflix in territories other than the US and Japan. The film will be released in Japan on DVD, Blu-ray, and Ultra HD Blu-ray on July 3, 2024, by Walt Disney Japan. It is the first 4K release for a Studio Ghibli film.
