The House of Braganza-Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (also known as the House of Saxe-Coburg-Braganza or the Constitutional Branch of the Braganzas) is a term used to categorize the last four rulers of the Kingdom of Portugal, and their families, from 1853 until the declaration of the republic in 1910.
Le sucedió su hijo José I (1714-77). Durante su reinado ejerció el poder el marqués de Pombal, que aplicó a Portugal el reformismo propio del «despotismo ilustrado». Sobrevivió a un atentado en 1768, tras el cual hizo ejecutar a los culpables y castigó severamente a toda su familia (los Tavora). Le sucedió su hija María I (1734-1816).
