David Rizzio, auch David Riccio, war ein italienischer Lautenspieler und Komponist sowie Privatsekretär und Günstling von Maria Stuart. Seine Ermordung 1566 löste die Kette tragischer Ereignisse aus, die zur Abdankung Marias und ihrer Flucht nach England führten, wo sie gefangengesetzt und 1587 enthauptet wurde.

He was a Piedmontese musician (also called Riccio) who arrived (1561) in Scotland with the ambassador from Savoy. He came to the notice of Queen Mary and toward the end of 1564 became her secretary for French affairs.

David Rizzio, sometimes known as David Riccio, was the son of a musician in the Italian town of Turin. His musical skills led to his being retained by the Archbishop of Turin, then at the Court of Savoy. Rizzio first came to Scotland as a member of a diplomatic mission from Savoy in 1561.
