As the mid-20th century approached, the International Style emerged as a dominant force within Early Modern Architecture. Architects like Le Corbusier and Mies van der Rohe championed this style, characterized by clean lines, open spaces, and a focus on functionality.
In an attempt to streamline construction and eliminate ornamentation, modern architecture also incorporated new ideas of the definition and purpose of art. Three of the most well-known styles of the Early Modern period are Expressionist, Art Deco, and the International style.
