Frederick III (Friedrich Wilhelm Nikolaus Karl; 18 October 1831 – 15 June 1888) was German Emperor and King of Prussia for 99 days between March and June 1888, during the Year of the Three Emperors.

Frederick III (German: Friedrich III, 21 September 1415 – 19 August 1493) was Holy Roman Emperor from 1452 until his death in 1493. He was the penultimate emperor to be crowned by the pope, and the last to be crowned in Rome.

Frederick III was German Emperor and King of Prussia for 99 days between March and June 1888, during the Year of the Three Emperors. Known informally as "Fritz", he was the only son of Emperor Wilhelm I and was raised in his family's tradition of military service.
Frederick III was the longest-reigning emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, ruling for 53 years. He is also famous for his device composed of the letter sequence ‘AEIOU’, although it has never been conclusively decoded. Frederick was born in 1415 to Ernest ‘the Iron’ and Cymburgis of Masovia.
