Gmunden (German: [ˈɡmʊndn̩] ⓘ) is a town in Upper Austria, Austria in the district of Gmunden. It has 13,204 inhabitants (estimates 2016 ).
Gmunden ist eine Stadt im oberösterreichischen Salzkammergut, am Nordufer des Traunsees. Sie hat 13.360 Einwohner (Stand 1. Jänner 2023) und ist Sitz der Bezirkshauptmannschaft des Bezirks Gmunden. Als Zentrum des Gerichtsbezirks Gmunden beherbergt sie das Bezirksgericht.
Gmunden, town, north-central Austria, where the Traun River flows out of Lake Traun (Traunsee), a mountain lake. The site of Celtic and Roman settlements, Gmunden was fortified in the 12th century and chartered in the 13th. Its Baroque parish church on 13th-century foundations was consecrated in 1723, and the town hall dates from 1659.
