Gustav Vigeland (11 April 1869 – 12 March 1943), born as Adolf Gustav Thorsen, was a Norwegian sculptor. Gustav Vigeland occupies a special position among Norwegian sculptors, both in the power of his creative imagination and in his productivity.
Gustav Vigeland (1869-1943) is Norway's most famous sculptor. He made his debut at the Autumn Exhibition in 1889, and in the 1890s he established himself as Norway's most promising sculptor.
The sculpture park is Gustav Vigeland's life work, comprising over 200 sculptures in granite, bronze and wrought iron. It was installed mainly in the period 1940-1949, but is nevertheless a result of over 40 years of work.
