Lincoln's Inn Fields is the largest public square in London. It was laid out in the 1630s under the initiative of the speculative builder and contractor William Newton, "the first in a long series of entrepreneurs who took a hand in developing London", as Sir Nikolaus Pevsner observes. [1]

Lincoln’s Inn’s 11-acre (4.5-hectare) estate comprises collegiate buildings, barristers’ chambers, commercial premises and residential apartments. The Inn is situated between Chancery Lane and Lincoln's Inn Fields, north of Inner and Middle Temples and south of Gray's Inn.
Lincoln’s Inn is located in central London. The main entrance to the estate is staffed twenty four hours a day and is located on the south east corner of Lincoln’s Inn Fields. The estate is conveniently located only a short walk from either Holborn or Chancery Lane tube stations.
