Pierre Louis Moreau de Maupertuis (/ ˌ m oʊ p ər ˈ t w iː /; French: [mopɛʁtɥi]; 1698 – 27 July 1759) was a French mathematician, philosopher and man of letters. He became the Director of the Académie des Sciences, and the first President of the Prussian Academy of Science, at the invitation of Frederick the Great.

Maupertuis es el remanente de un cráter de impacto que se encuentra en la parte norte de la cara visible de la Luna. Se encuentra en la zona de terreno accidentado al norte del Sinus Iridum, una bahía en el sector noroeste del Mare Imbrium. Al norte se localiza el cráter La Condamine y el Mare Frigoris.
