v. t. e. Louis IV ( German: Ludwig IV. Großherzog von Hessen und bei Rhein; 12 September 1837 – 13 March 1892) was the Grand Duke of Hesse and by Rhine from 13 June 1877 until his death in 1892. Through his marriage to Queen Victoria 's second daughter Alice, he was connected to the British royal family.

Louis, Prince of Hesse and by Rhine (Ludwig Hermann Alexander Chlodwig, 20 November 1908 – 30 May 1968) was the youngest son of Ernest Louis, Grand Duke of Hesse by his second wife, Princess Eleonore of Solms-Hohensolms-Lich. He was a great-grandson of Queen Victoria.

Ernest Louis (born November 25, 1868, Darmstadt, Hesse-Darmstadt [Germany]—died October 9, 1937, near Darmstadt) was the grand duke of Hesse-Darmstadt from 1892 until his abdication in 1918, at the end of World War I.
All are wearing mourning clothes. Ernest Louis was the elder son of Louis IV, Grand Duke of Hesse and by Rhine and Princess Alice of the United Kingdom, daughter of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. He was named Louis after his father. His nickname was "Ernie".
Prince Louis of Hesse, son of Charles, Prince of Hesse, and Elisabeth, third daughter of Prince William of Prussia, succeeded his uncle, Louis III, as Louis IV, Grand Duke of Hesse, in 1877. He married, in 1862, Princess Alice, second daughter of Queen Victoria, by whom he had two sons and five daughters.
17 de nov. de 2022 · Prince Louis became the Head of the House of Hesse and by Rhine, inheriting a Palace and four Castle, taking the title of the Prince of Hesse and by Rhine, though the first time the new Princess was addressed as ‘Your Royal Highness’ was when she was suffering from nausea on the boat taking them across the Channel.
