  1. Reading School is a state grammar school for boys with academy status in the English town of Reading, the county of Berkshire. It traces its history back to the school of Reading Abbey and is, thus, one of the oldest schools in England, although it closed for a few years in the 1860s.

  6. The Schools history may be divided into three periods and summarized as follows: I 1125 - 1539: Reading Abbey was founded in 1121 by Cluniac monks under the patronage of King Henry I. The secular functions of the Abbey, including the School, commenced in 1125.
