Useful Links. Year 9 Curriculum Timbertop Handbook Entry into Timbertop. Where Year 9 students experience a full year of boarding in the High Country. Free from technology, students enjoy a rigorous outdoor and indoor learning programme.
The programme is designed to equip Year 9 students for the demands of Senior School upon their return to Corio Campus. The academic curriculum consists of the core subject areas of English, Mathematics, Science, History (Australian Curriculum), Outdoor Education Studies and Positive Education.
In the 1967 book, Timbertop: An Innovation in Australian Education, Darling wrote that his idea for Timbertop “was based upon the belief that education must be closely concerned with the development of self-confidence, and that this comes from the learning of competence in practical ways, and from the growth of self-reliance and independence”.

Timbertop is a full-time boarding, co-educational campus of Geelong Grammar School located near Mansfield, Victoria, Australia. A map of the Timbertop Campus, Merrijig, VIC. Established in 1953, by then Headmaster James Darling, Timbertop is compulsory for all year-nine students attending Geelong Grammar School.
