Tver (Russian: Тверь, IPA:) is a city and the administrative centre of Tver Oblast, Russia. It is situated at the confluence of the Volga and Tvertsa rivers. Tver is located 180 kilometres (110 mi) northwest of Moscow. Population: 416,216 (2021 Census).
In 1327, with its kremlin large and well fortified, Tver organized an uprising against the Tatars but was defeated. The Principality of Tver was annexed by Moscow in 1485. In the 14th and 15th centuries Tver was well known as an important crafts centre.

TVER – FROM ANCIENT SETTLMENT TO THE MODERN CITY. The city of Tver is called one of the oldest Russian cities. Already in the 12th century a fortress appeared at the mouth of the Tvertsa River, which was destined to become the prototype of Tver. In 1246 Tver became the capital of the Tver principality.

Officially Tver is considered to have been founded in 1135 when guests from the city are mentioned in a document. However this date is not universally accepted by historians.
