Walter FitzAlan (c. 1090 – 1177) was a twelfth-century Anglo-Norman baron who became a Scottish magnate and Steward of Scotland. He was a younger son of Alan fitz Flaad and Avelina de Hesdin. In about 1136, Walter entered into the service of David I, King of Scotland.

[1] He was the third son of a Breton knight, Alan fitzFlaad, feudal lord of Oswestry, by his spouse Aveline, daughter of Ernoulf de Hesdin.

Walter was born c. 1106, and started his life as the third son of Adeline de Hesdin and a Breton knight, Alan Fitz Flaald, who had been granted the feudal barony of Oswestry by King Henry I of England after having been invited, with other Breton nobles, to receive lands in Norfolk and Shropshire.
