Esther Phillips (born Esther Mae Washington; December 23, 1935 – August 7, 1984) was an American singer, best known for her R&B vocals. She rose to prominence in 1950, scoring several major R&B hits including "Double Crossing Blues" and "Mistrustin' Blues" under the moniker "Little Esther".
The song, performed by Esther Phillips, is used at the end of the 1996 film The Sunchaser, directed by Michael Cimino, starring Woody Harrelson. Ethel Merman sang a partial rendition of the song in a radio commercial for Mailgram , one of her last recordings.

Biography. Born in Barbados, where she still resides, Esther Phillips graduated with an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Miami in 1999, winning the Alfred Boas Poetry Prize of the Academy of American Poets for her poetry thesis. In February 2018, she was appointred the first Poet Laureate of Barbados.
