Learn the Georgian alphabet. Despite apparences, the Georgian alphabet is pretty easy to learn. You can learn it here in eleven lessons. Each lesson presents 3 or 4 letters and includes many exercises where you have to transcribe Georgian words, mostly foreign words you can already understand.
Lesson 1 – Learn the Georgian alphabet. Lesson 1 – ა, ი, ლ, მ. ა (a) The first letter we are learning is also the first letter of the alphabet. It is pronounced like ah in English. ი (i) This letter is pronounced like ee in English. ლ (l) Now we need a couple of consonants to form words. Here is l. მ (m)
Lesson 6 – ბ, გ, დ, ზ Were the last two lessons difficult? Now we will have some rest: all the following letters are pronounced just like their English counterparts.
Georgian has a simple 5-vowel system: front rounded i, e , back rounded u, o, and neutral a (5-vowel systems are actually the most common vowel systems among the world's languages). There are no long vowels in standard Georgian. Georgian vowels: ა a, ე e, ი i, ო o and უ u.
Lesson 4 –. თ, ქ, ფ. Before going further, we need to talk about phonetics, more precisely about aspiration. Put your hand in front of your mouth and say “pin”, and then say “spin”. The p in “pin” is followed by a puff of air, as if the p was followed by a h, but the p in “spin” is not.
