The Greenlandic Inuit (Greenlandic: kalaallit, Danish: Grønlandsk Inuit) are the indigenous and most populous ethnic group in Greenland. Most speak Greenlandic (Western Greenlandic, Kalaallisut) and consider themselves ethnically Greenlandic. People of Greenland are both citizens of Denmark and citizens of the European Union.

People of Greenland. Nearly nine-tenths of Greenlanders are principally of Inuit extraction. They identify themselves as Kalaallit (West Greenlanders), Inugguit (from Thule district), or Iit (East Greenlanders), depending upon their region. They are very strongly admixed with early European immigrant strains.
According to the 2018 edition of the CIA World Factbook, Inuit population of Greenland is 88 per cent (50,787) out of a total of 57,713 people. Like Nunavut, the population lives throughout the habitable areas of the region.
Approximately 4,500 years ago, the first Inuit came to the country. It was the Saqqaq culture. The Dorset culture followed approximately 2,500 years ago. Large parts of the present Greenlandic population are descendants of the Thule culture, which came to the country approximately 1,000-1,100 years ago.
As of 2012, a whopping 89 percent of the total population of Greenland was Inuit. This means that there are an estimated 51,000 Inuit people living in this country, and the vast majority of them live in the southwestern corner. However, there are three distinct major Inuit groups: Inughuit, Tunumiit and Kalaallit.
