In 1982, Jeff York was training to become a Sonar Operator onboard the recently commissioned, nuclear-powered Swiftsure class submarine HMS Spartan. One of the first British Vessel into the Falklands, the Spartan was tasked with controlling the exclusion zone.

As luck would have it, he met Garson Kanin in the army and he directed Jeff to a screen test in New York. This test was seen by Louis B. Mayer of MGM and was offered a contract. After no sooner signing a contract Jeff was recalled by the army in February, 1942 until he was discharged in March, 1945.
