Kligman was an abstract painter, working in New York City, New York. Her works include Joan of Arc and the Light and Deman series. Kligman developed in several directions at different stages in her career, including iconography, gilding, curved canvases, bright primary shapes, and sunset-inspired gradations.

Ruth Kligman, an abstract painter who for decades seemed to know everyone and be everywhere in the art world and who was the lone survivor of the 1956 car crash that killed Jackson Pollock, her lover at the time, died Monday, according to the New York Times.
Bio: Klingemann is an award-winning artist and skeptic with a curious mind, whose preferred tools are neural networks, code and algorithms. He recently made headlines with the sale of his piece Memories of Passersby I, which was one of the first AI artworks bought in a traditional auction house (featured below).

Fifty years earlier, when she was his mistress, she had seen it firsthand the night the notoriously troubled artist drove off a narrow country lane, killing himself, her best friend, and traumatizing Kligman for life.

Kligman also claimed that the artist and Pop Art icon, Andy Warhol, who had mentioned her in his diaries, had a “terrific crush” on her for years. Close to the likes of Mark Rothko, Robert Mapplethorpe, Bern Stern, Franz Kline, and Jasper Johns, Kligman would say, “All the geniuses of 20 th-century art were my fathers, lovers, sons.”
