Adelaide of Saxe-Meiningen (Adelaide Amelia Louise Theresa Caroline; 13 August 1792 – 2 December 1849) was Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and Queen of Hanover from 26 June 1830 to 20 June 1837 as the wife of King William IV.

15 de mar. de 2017 · They became King and Queen on 26 June 1830, and William’s became the oldest person ever to ascend the throne at the age of 64. His health was Adelaide’s primary concern, and William was determined to live until Princess Victoria was 18 years old, to prevent a regency by her mother, whom he despised. He succeeded in that regard.
It was at his request that the new colony founded in South Australia in 1836 was named ‘Adelaide’ after his wife, the Queen consort. During her life, Queen Adelaide was well known for her tireless commitment to civic work. She died on 2 December 1849 and was buried at St George’s Chapel, Windsor.
