Asking fans to submit names which would draw attention to the Arizona desert and it's famous lore, the finalists were narrowed down to the Arizona Coyotes, Diamondbacks, Phoenix, Rattlers, Saguaros, and Scorpions.

Within the middle of the A is a purple half star which both appears like a snake tongue and completes the design of a snake head in the negative space.
