Battleship Texas was commissioned on March 12 th, 1914 at Norfolk Navy Yard. The day was cold and snowy and, much to everyone’s relief, Captain Albert Grant kept his remarks to a brisk five minutes. At commissioning, Battleship Texas was considered the most powerful weapon in the world.
Battleship Texas is closed for the time being. Battleship Texas will permanently reopen at Pier 20 in Galveston, Texas no earlier than late 2025, but we are working on other touring opportunities in the meantime. You can follow our social media or check out our news page for the latest updates.
