Inguinal hernias are the commonest type of abdominal wall hernias (up to 80% 3) and are most often acquired. There is a recognized male predilection with an M:F ratio of up to 7:1 3.
Patients most commonly present with swelling and/or pain in the relevant groin, iliac fossa, loin. Men may also have testicular pain.

Una hernia inguinal es una protrusión del contenido abdominal a través de una zona adquirida o congénita de debilidad o defecto de la pared abdominal justo por encima del ligamento inguinal. Muchas hernias inguinales son asintomáticas, pero algunas se incarceran o estrangulan, lo que causa dolor y requiere cirugía inmediata.
Hernias inguinales. Alrededor del 75% las hernias abdominales son inguinales. Las eventraciones representan otro 10-15%. Las hernias femorales son raras y representan el 10-15% restante. Las hernias estranguladas son isquémicas debido a la constricción física de su irrigación sanguínea.
