La enfermedad de Keshan (KD) es una afección potencialmente mortal que afecta el músculo cardíaco. Es causada por una deficiencia de selenio y se caracteriza por edema pulmonar e insuficiencia cardíaca.
Keshan disease is a congestive cardiomyopathy caused by a combination of dietary deficiency of selenium and the presence of a mutated strain of Coxsackievirus, named after Keshan County of Heilongjiang province, Northeast China, where symptoms were first noted.
Objetivo: La enfermedad de Keshan es una miocardiopatía endémica que se encuentra en Keshan, al noreste de China. El primer paciente fue identificado en 1935. Esta enfermedad se caracteriza por un trastorno de la circulación sanguínea, una anomalía del endocardio y una necrosis del miocardio.
