  2. New College was founded in 1379 by William of Wykeham (1324-1404), Bishop of Winchester, as The College of St Mary of Winchester in Oxford. It very soon became known as New College to distinguish it from an earlier Oxford college (Oriel, founded 1326) also dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

    Any member of the College with a BA or equivalent, or any postgraduate degree, is warmly invited to dine at High Table, during full term, three times a year (or more often by permission of the Sub-Warden); a nominal charge is made. The Senior Common Room will be at your disposal before and after dinner. (NB The SCR is closed on Saturday evenings). ...

    Old Members are welcome to book JCR guest rooms Monday to Thursday nights in full term. We may occasionally have guest rooms in vacations but not during conference or closed periods.   3. New College is one of the constituent colleges of the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom. Founded in 1379 by William of Wykeham in conjunction with Winchester College as its feeder school, New College was one of the first colleges in the university to admit and tutor undergraduate students.
