Although the first production MINI, the MINI Cooper SE, wouldn’t come out until over a decade later, the MINIs of The Italian Job helped popularise this new iteration of the classic British small car and create a new generation of fans.
There were 16 Minis used in the 1969 film, with 6 original Mk1 Austin Cooper S types as the hero cars. ALL of the Minis were destroyed during filming. Although many stories have been told and stated on the internet. Remy confirmed first hand that what remained of the cars were merely parts.
