There are two main types of hiatus hernia (although they may co-exist): sliding hiatus hernia (>90%) rolling (para-esophageal) hiatus hernia (<10%) Some divide them into four types: type 1: sliding hiatal hernia (~95%)
La hernia hiatal es la anormalidad más frecuente del tracto digestivo alto. En una revisión de 2000 pa-cientes, enviados por síntomas re-lacionados con posible enferme-dad esofágica o dolor torácico, el 75% tenía hernia hiatal. En adultos por encima de los 50 años, sin síntomas, se estima una frecuencia del 10%.

Evidence of a large hiatal hernia with a hernial defect (widened esophageal hiatus) of about 5 cm, through which most of the stomach (fundus and body) is seen herniating into the chest cavity with displaced gastro-esophageal junction upwards, together with some herniating perigastric fat.

La hernia hiatal es una protrusión del estómago a través del hiato diafragmático. La mayoría de las hernias son asintomáticas, pero la mayor incidencia de reflujo ácido puede provocar síntomas de enfermedad por reflujo gastroesofágico. El diagnóstico se efectúa mediante estudio de deglución con bario.
Age: 70 years. Gender: Female. PA chest X-ray. x-ray. The mediastinum is enlarged with a retrocardiac lucency indicative of a gas-filled structure. The findings are in keeping with a hiatus (paraesophageal) hernia. Case Discussion. Many patients that are diagnosed in the imaging department are asymptomatic.
