John William Coltrane (Hamlet, 23 de septiembre de 1926-Nueva York, 17 de julio de 1967), también conocido como John Coltrane, fue un músico estadounidense de jazz, saxofonista tenor y saxo soprano. Ocasionalmente, tocó el saxo alto y la flauta.
En 1957, John Coltrane se incorpora al cuarteto de Thelonious Monk, donde prosigue su evolución hacia un estilo propio y definido, basado en armonías experimentales. En 1960 crea su propio cuarteto, por el que desfilan varios músicos, hasta estabilizarse con el pianista McCoy Tyner, el bajista Steve Kuhn y el batería Elvin Jones.

John William Coltrane (September 23, 1926 – July 17, 1967) was an American jazz saxophonist, bandleader and composer. He is among the most influential and acclaimed figures in the history of jazz and 20th-century music. Born and raised in North Carolina, Coltrane moved to Philadelphia after graduating from high school, where he studied music.

And, after being hired to the Miles Davis Quartet around the middle of that decade Davis eventually kicked him out of the band in 1957 as Coltrane continued to battle his seven-year addiction to the drug.
