Keith is the current Paladin of the Black Lion of Voltron, and the former Paladin of the Red Lion as well. A man of few words and dry wit, Keith is a loner and rebel by nature with "discipline issues" that resulted in his expulsion from the Galaxy Garrison.
Keith is a Dropout ace pilot cadet from the Galaxy Garrison who functions as a Paladin of Voltron fighting the Galra Empire, piloting, at first, the Red Lion, but later transitioning to the Black Lion after Shiro's disappearance.

The Keith as fans know him in Voltron: Legendary Defender could have been very different. According to an interview with producers Lauren Montgomery and Joaquim Dos Santos, he went through a major design change before the series went into production.
History. Before Keith became the Red Paladin, he was an orphaned at a young age because his mother, Krolia left Earth when he was an infant to continue her mission with the Blade of Marmora, and Keith's Father died when Keith was very young.
