    Ravensburg (Swabian: Raveschburg) is a city in Upper Swabia in Southern Germany, capital of the district of Ravensburg, Baden-Württemberg. Ravensburg was first mentioned in 1088. In the Middle Ages, it was an Imperial Free City and an important trading centre.

  3. History of Ravensburg. The Ravensburg region was, according to archaeological finds, settled in the Stone Age and in Roman times. But the first written record of it as a town was a settlement which grew at the base of the massive fortification on the nearby hill (now known as the Veitsburg).

  4. The town’s roots go back even further: From the 11th century, a settlement evolved at the foot of Ravensburg castle, the former ancestral seat of the Guelph family. The town earned its market rights early on and became a free Imperial city in 1276.
