Shardlow in South Derbyshire is south-east of Derby and was once a considerable inland port on the River Trent. Today, Shardlow is considered Britain’s most complete surviving example of a canal village, with over fifty Grade II listed buildings and many surviving public houses within the designated Shardlow Wharf Conservation Area.
Called in at the centre when on a walk around Shardlow which is a lovely village. The centre provides loads of information about canals and the history of this inland port and best of all is free. Well worth a visit, parking is in the Clock Warehouse car park.
