Am 30. Juni 2022 betrug die Amtliche Einwohnerzahl 241.246. Die Stadt Halle (Saale) selbst gab ihre Einwohnerzahl in Opposition zu den Angaben des Landesamtes zum selben Stichtag mit 243.259 an. Vom 31. Dezember 2014 zum 31. Dezember 2017 stieg sie sprunghaft von 233.552 auf 241.093 an [2].
