Rheingau-Taunus is a Kreis ( district) in the west of Hesse, Germany. Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis is part of the Darmstadt region; its main administrative seat is Bad Schwalbach. Outposted sections of the local administration are located in Idstein and Rüdesheim am Rhein .

La capital del distrito es la ciudad de Bad Schwalbach, donde se encuentra la administración territorial de la ciudad; antiguamente la capital era Rüdesheim del Rin.
Der Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis ist eine Gebietskörperschaft mit 189.614 Einwohnern (31. Dezember 2022) im Regierungsbezirk Darmstadt in Westen Hessens. Der Landkreis entstand im Jahr 1977 aus einem Zusammenschluss von Rheingaukreis und Untertaunuskreis.

Der Rheingaukreis war bis zum 31. Dezember 1976 ein Landkreis in Hessen. Er war am 22. Februar 1867 im Regierungsbezirk Wiesbaden der preußischen Provinz Hessen-Nassau gegründet worden. Kreisstadt war Rüdesheim am Rhein.

It was named after the traditional region of Rheingau (meaning "Rhine district"), the wine region is situated in the state of Hesse, where it constitutes part of the Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis administrative district.
