Robert Stewart, Duke of Albany (c. 1340 – 3 September 1420) was a member of the Scottish royal family who served as regent (at least partially) to three Scottish monarchs (Robert II, Robert III, and James I).
Robert Stewart, 1st duke of Albany was a regent of Scotland who virtually ruled Scotland from 1388 to 1420, throughout the reign of his weak brother Robert III and during part of the reign of James I, who had been imprisoned in London. The third son of Robert II of Scotland, he was made high.

Robert was created Earl of Menteith in 1361 and Earl of Fife in 1371. He served as Governor of Scotland from 1388 until his death in 1420. Finally, he was created Duke of Albany on April 28, 1398, Earl of Atholl September 2, 1403 and Earl of Buchan in 1406.

One of the powerful men in late fourteenth and early fifteenth-century Scotland was Robert Stewart, Duke of Albany. While he served as regent to three Scottish kings, he seemingly wanted even more power.
