Central Catalan (Catalan: català central) is an Eastern Catalan dialect spoken in the whole province of Barcelona, the eastern half of the province of Tarragona and most of the province of Girona, except for its northern part, where a transition to Northern Catalan begins.
Central Catalan is considered the standard pronunciation of the language and has the largest number of speakers. It is spoken in the densely populated regions of the Barcelona province , the eastern half of the province of Tarragona, and most of the province of Girona.

En català central es produeix una obertura de la /o/tancada quan es troba en síl·laba inicial tònica. Ex. ['nɔm] 'nom'; [hɔrə] 'hora'. El sistema vocàlic àton del català central està compost per tres sons i es caracteritza la confusió entre la /o/i la /u/ en [u] i entre la /a/ i la /e/ en [ə].
