La Sarthe (/ s a ʁ t / [Note 1]) est un département français de la région Pays de la Loire. Ses habitants sont appelés les Sarthois. L'Insee et la Poste lui attribuent le code 72. Son chef-lieu est Le Mans. Le département a été créé par le décret de l'Assemblée nationale du 15 janvier 1790.
Sarthe (French pronunciation: ⓘ) is a department of the French region of Pays de la Loire, and the province of Maine, situated in the Grand-Ouest of the country. It is named after the river Sarthe, which flows from east of Le Mans to just north of Angers. It had a population of 566,412 in 2019.

Le département de la Sarthe a été créé le 4 mars 1790 en application de la loi du 22 décembre 1789. En 2019, à la suite de la création de 5 communes nouvelles le 1 er janvier 2019 , leur nombre est passé de 360 à 354.
