Though neither New Routes nor its Miami-recorded, Dixie Flyers-assisted follow-up Melody Fair scaled the heights commercially, both projects proved the versatility of the vocal dynamo.

In the late 1960s and early 1970s, Lulu dipped a bit into soul (well, a mixture of soul and pop), and The Atco Sessions 1969-1972 collects two complete albums as well as singles and outtakes from that time. This two-disc set also includes liner notes by Richie Unterberger.
Real Gone’s reissue of this compilation (which came and went in a heartbeat in the U.K. about seven years ago and sells for a queenly sum) includes new liner notes by Richie Unterberger; it’s a fascinating look at forgotten phase in the career of one of the British Invasion’s leading female figures.
