Woody Strode

He became part of Hollywood lore after meeting director John Ford and becoming a part of the Ford "family," appearing in four Ford motion pictures. Strode also played the powerful gladiator who does battle with Kirk Douglas in Spartacus (1960).

A decorated football player at UCLA before joining teammate Kenny Washington in breaking the NFL’s color barrier in 1946, Strode eventually drew the attention of Hollywood.
Acteur et footballeur américain, Woody Strode a débuté comme joueur de football américain dès les années 30. Il est notamment le premier joueur noir à entrer chez les RAM de Los Angeles en 1946. Puis, il a joué pendant trois ans d’affilée au Canada, avant d’abandonner sa carrière sportive en 1949.
