31 de ene. de 2015 · Charles Brandon had an inauspicious beginning and his rise to wealth and prominence was due largely to two things: his father’s death at Bosworth Field and his own personal magnetism. Upon his death in 1545, Brandon was perhaps the only person in England who had successfully retained Henry VIII’s affection for over forty turbulent years.

Charles Brandon, the handsome thirty-year-old duke of Suffolk. Suffolk, whose father died serving as Henry VII's standard bearer at Bosworth, grew up at the Tudor court, where he became Henry VIII's closest friend. After he became king, Henry raised him to the peerage, eventually granting him a dukedom, the highest rank in the nobility.
22 de jul. de 2019 · 1515 (May) Charles and Mary Brandon, Duke and Duchess of Suffolk, were allowed to return to England on condition that they pay Henry £1,000 per year for 24 years, the cost of Mary’s marriage to Louis XII. The fine was crippling financially and they lived away from court until Henry reduced the debt some years later.
