K162 (E major - Andante - Allegro) (To the score) is one of the formally and harmonically very interesting sonatas. This sonata is also in two parts in the large form, but the parts themselves are also structured. The A-part is two-part, the B-part three-part. The A section consists of an andante and an allegro.

Classical guitarists of my generation (b.1962) are probably too young to have registered the initial impact of Andres Segovia (or Pablo Casals for that matter). The reputation was one thing, but the old Decca records never sounded as good as they should have.
Es war nicht leicht, 17 Sonaten für die vorliegende Aufnahme auszuwählen, einfach weil es so viele sehr gute gibt, aber vielleicht war meine Freude daran noch größer als beim ersten Mal, da diesmal viele für mich neu waren. Je mehr ich über Domenico Scarlatti lese, desto klarer wird mir, wie wenig wir über ihn wissen.
This sonata as well as K434 (To the score) show Scarlatti at the height of a very own polyphonic mastery. During this first period the fashion dances of the time such as the minuet also appear a few times. Scarlatti's minuets are always short pieces of great melodic beauty.
