The title, Hegira drew me to this novel by Jim Cronin. Hegira - a journey or travel that is in essence to escape from a dangerous situation. It intrigued me. I downloaded it on KU. I wasn't sure about the genre though.

They are transported to Hegira, an artificial environment of the scale of the planet Jupiter , which has habitats for several species on its surface.
