Surfside 6 was actually a "spinoff" of "Bourbon Street Beat" because Van Williams' character Kenny Madison moved from the canceled Bourbon Street Beat to the premiere of Surfside 6. Two of the most populat sitcoms of the early 1960s, " The Danny Thomas Show " and " The Andy Griffith Show " made it pretty difficult to attract an audience.
