The Coasters were an American Doo Wop and early Rock & Roll group, evolving from The Robins, a Los Angeles based R&B/Doo Wop group. After The Robins signed with Atlantic Records (in 1955, after the chart success of "Smokey Joe's Cafe"), the group split up. Carl Gardner (tenor) and Bobby Nunn (2) (bass) formed The Coasters.
