Augusto Pinochet nació el 25 de noviembre de 1915 en Valparaíso, Chile. Proveniente de una familia de clase media, Pinochet creció en un ambiente en el que se valoraba el trabajo duro y la disciplina. Su padre, Augusto Pinochet Vera, era un estricto funcionario público, mientras que su madre, Avelina Ugarte Martínez, era ama de casa.
Augusto José Ramón Pinochet Ugarte (n. 25 noiembrie 1915 , Valparaíso , Chile – d. 10 decembrie 2006 , Santiago de Chile , Chile ), cunoscut mai mult ca Augusto Pinochet , a fost un general, om politic de dreapta și dictator chilian , care a îndeplinit funcția de Președinte al Republicii Chile între 1974 și 1990.
