The College betting books, 1815-1919, were privately printed in two volumes by C.W.C. Oman, 1912-38, and a volume of All Souls memorial addresses was privately printed in 1989. An official multi-volume history of the College is in preparation.)
Today, we find ourselves at All Souls College, or more formally known as College of the Souls of All the Faithful Departed, at none other than Oxford University. Planned, built, and endowed in the 1430s by Henry Chichele and co-founded with King Henry VI, All Souls was the byproduct of decades of careful thought about what the (already) old university needed in a new college.
Law at All Souls has a long and distinguished history. The College’s Founder, Archbishop Chichele, intended some of the College's fellowships to support those studying canon and civil law. In 1753, William Blackstone gave the first Oxford lectures on the common law while a Fellow of the College, and in 1758 he became the first Vinerian Professor of the Common Law.
